About Saint Peregrine

Saint Peregrine Laziosi (1265–1345) was an Italian Servite priest who, after a life of deep penance and prayer, developed a cancerous growth on his leg that doctors planned to amputate. The night before the surgery, he prayed fervently before a crucifix and experienced a vision of Christ healing him. When the doctors arrived the next morning, the cancer had completely disappeared.

He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1726 and is universally invoked as the Patron Saint of cancer patients, those with serious illness, and all who suffer. His feast day is celebrated on May 1.
